The method involves applying an alternating current to a sensor coil (7) of a sensor (2). A magnet (5) is associated with a measured object (1), in a soft magnetic foil (4), whose permeability changes under the influence of a magnetic field on the basis of the magnetic field strength. The magnet is arranged in the area of influence of the sensor, and brings about a change in the permeability of the foil. The change in the permeability of the foil is used to determine the position and change of position of the measured object relative to the sensor. An independent claim is also included for a sensor arrangement for determining the position and change of position of the measured object.
