The machine has a frame (21) and a side wall (4) for mounting a circumferential element (1) e.g. transfer drum, conveying a sheet (7) along a path (13). Guide plates (15, 17, 18) are provided along the path, where one of the guide plates (17) is movable from a working position along the path into a maintenance position. A free space (30) for a person exists between the element and the guide plate (17) in the maintenance position. A manhole (31) is provided in the side wall to access the free space.
