The transmission (14) includes an interconnector mechanism that continuously connects the third component of the primary planetary gear set (20) with the second component of the second planetary gear seat (30). Five torque transmitting devices or clutches (80,82,84,85,86) selectively interconnect the components of the planetary gear sets with other components of the planetary gear sets. The clutches are engaged in combination of three to establish the eight forward speed ratios and one reverse speed ratio between input component and output component.
