The device has a purely optical channel for transmitting an image, whereby a periscope head is mounted to rotate about its vertical axis. The optical channel has an image conductor with at least 1 million and preferably 5 million optical fibers. The dimensions of the image conductor are at least 15 x 15 mm, preferably 25 x 25 mm. An independent claim is also included for an armored vehicle with a periscope.
