The feeder (30) for a stamping or imprinting device (1) has means (20a,20b,21a,21b) for the feed of sheets from a number of piles (16a,16b), whereby the piles are arranged next to one another in the transporting direction (TB). The means for feeding are designed in such a way that even sheets (6a,6b) are fed from a single pile. The means for feeding have at least one suction device per pile. The suction devices can be operated independently from one another. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a stamping or imprinting device with the aforesaid feeder; and (B) a method for the stamping or imprinting of sheets by a stamping or imprinting device equipped with the aforesaid feeder.
