The method involves arranging dosing devices, having a dosing unit (11), in an exhaust line, where the unit is enclosed by an exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine. The unit is heated up to a preset temperature by an engine post-injection. An external post-injection of a fuel in an exhaust purification device is carried out by the unit when the temperature of the unit is equal to or greater than the preset temperature. An independent claim is also included for a dosing device utilized for an external post-injection of a fuel in an exhaust purification device of an internal combustion engine.
