Process for preparing a formulation for cosmetic treatment of keratinous material, comprises percolation of fluid at a pressure of =3 bars through a composition comprising a cosmetic compound in the form of solid or paste in the presence of a hydroxy hydrotrope i.e. a polyol compound (I). Process for preparing a formulation for cosmetic treatment of keratinous material, comprises percolation of fluid at a pressure of =3 bars through a composition comprising a cosmetic compound in the form of solid or paste in the presence of a hydroxy hydrotrope i.e. a polyol compound (I) of formula R2-O-(CH2-CHOH-CH2-O)n-R1. R11-4C alkyl or phenyl; R2H, 1-4C alkyl, phenyl or R3CO- (when R1 is alkyl); n : 1-3; and R31-4C alkyl. Provided that R2 is not hydrogen when n is 1 and R1 is methyl.
