The system has a test device i.e. diagnostics (4) connected to a failure managing device (2) i.e. diagnostic event manager, and a changeover switch (12) permitting to select a force signal transmitted to the device (2) between a regular force signal from the device (4) and a simulated force signal. A signal simulating device is connected to the switch, where the simulating device simulates bad or better force signals. An interface e.g. programmable assembly, is integrated to the managing device. An independent claim is also included for a method of simulating a failure of an internal combustion engine.
