The method involves utilizing a drowning unit for drowning pupa (1) of a mosquito by releasing the air retained by body of the pupa. The air is released by directing a drowning sound wave (4) on the pupa, where the wave is emitted by a sonotrode (11) placed below a water surface. The drowning sound wave has frequency comprised between 33 and 44 kilohertz and an amplitude calibrated with a value close to or less than a cavitation threshold. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling mosquito.
