The apparatus (100) has a water reservoir (1) rigidly connected to a sealed lower volume by a flow regulator at a lower end of a cylinder. A transmission device transmits measurement signals produced by measurement sensors to a receiver (222). The regulator controls displacement speed of a piston in the cylinder via a water flow transferred between the volume and the reservoir. A rod traverses a sealed upper wall of an anchoring bell (2) such that a portion of the rod is extended outside the bell via an opening of the bell based on position of the piston in the cylinder. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a system for carrying out measurements at bottom of a lake (2) a method for carrying out measurements of a sediment layer present at the bottom of a lake.
