The parasol has a retractable tarpaulin (4) constituted of a rectangular fabric piece of transparent or opaque aspect whose longitudinal side is fixed on circumference of the parasol to form an enclosure. The enclosure has an inner wall provided with slides located in extension of each rib to permit easy passage of cordage (6) e.g. cord. A mast (2) is provided with a blocking device (8) for blocking the cordage to adjust upturn of the tarpaulin to a desired height.
