The system has laser scanners (11, 12) placed at an input of a passage channel (2) and analyzing a vehicle clearance profile. A computer processes data provided by the laser scanners. A video camera (14) e.g. thermal camera, discriminates vehicles from images captured upstream of the passage channel and transmits output data of the vehicles to the computer. Another video camera (16) e.g. television video camera, monitors and controls a toll booth (1).
