The installation has a catalytic unit (6) formed of monolithic blocks connected with each other and allowing heavy hydrocarbon to flow through the unit, so that the hydrocarbon and hydrogen undergo a chemical reaction e.g. hydro-conversion, in the blocks. A pipe (9) permits injection of hydrogen at an inlet of the unit. The blocks are placed side by side in a section of a well (2). A heating device (7) supplies heat quantity so that catalysis occurs in the blocks. A hydrogen injection point (12) upstream of a pumping unit (8) disperses hydrogen in the hydrocarbon by using a mixer (11). An independent claim is also included for an optimized method for production of hydrocarbon contained in a reservoir rock traversed by a well.
