The hook application verifies whether a shortcut from an input user interface is an element of a predetermined list. The application translates the shortcut into a control line e.g. URL address, completes a command by copying selected data in a field, and shapes the data conforming to the command, when the shortcut is the element of the list. The completed control is transmitted to the target application. An event is transmitted to an operating system, when the shortcut is not the element of the predetermined list. The shortcut is a keyboard shortcut or is accessible via a menu. An independent claim is also included for a method for transmitting data to an application.
