The starter (2) has electromagnetic switch (3) which has contact cover (11) which comprises end wall and side wall that receives fixed and movable contacts (19-21). A terminal bolt (18) is secured in contact cover to extend in axial direction of motor with end portion protruding from end wall of contact cover. A metal plate (22) is provided whose one end portion is inserted in contact cover through side wall and other end portion (22b) is located outside contact cover and electrically connected to motor.
