The system has a video surveillance device (50) including a processing system connected to a video camera equipment. A remote terminal is connected to a communication network e.g. Internet. The processing system compares the video data acquired by the camera equipment with a reference image of a geographic area to be monitored, and generates and transmits a warning message to the destination of the terminal according to the comparison result via a connection e.g. Wireless fidelity. The message includes the reference image and a part of the acquired data, which generate the alarm. An independent claim is also included for a method for video surveillance of a geographic area.
