The tool for handling an element e.g. reception cell in a pool of nuclear power plant e.g. pressurized water reactor, comprises a frame (17), two columns (19A, 19B) of different lengths engaging itself in the element to handle and to retain against an action of its weight, and a displacement mechanism (41). The frame is connected to a control rod (11) for contacting the tool with a support configuration and a release configuration. The columns comprise element-retaining units (23A, 23B), which is displaced using the mechanism according to the frame between support and release positions. The linchpin is carried by the connection head, and the channel is arranged in the frame. The retaining units comprise blocks, which are laterally projected.
