The device has a camera (2) with an angular sector (X0) covering a determined zone of environment of a motor vehicle (1). An electronic display system (3) displays an image of the zone stored by the camera on a video screen (4). The camera is fixed with an orientation from its optical axis (20). The system has an image processing block to display a simulated image from a global image stored by the camera on the screen. The simulated image is adapted to driving conditions at given instant and centered on a virtual optical axis whose orientation is adjusted relative to that of the axis (20).
