The joint (200) has barrier layers (203, 207), and malleable support layers (211, 215) conferring a global mechanical characteristics to adjacent layers for permitting the joint to be subjected to deformation imposed by axial compression of a closure cap and the joint against a neck, by associating the support layers with a resilient layer (209) without any fold formations. Outer layers (201, 217) have outer surfaces indented under the compression effect of the cap and the joint against the neck such that the cap engages a shape of a widemouthed surface of the neck at a contact level. The joint is free from a cellulose material layer e.g. kraft paper.
