The axle has a crosspiece (1) connecting two longitudinal arms (2) and formed of two plates (10) separated on their length. A Panhard stabilizing rod (3) is articulated at an end (31) on one of the arms and at another end (32) on a body shell of a vehicle. The plates are inclined with respect to each other and symmetric with respect to a median plane (Pm) of the crosspiece such that a torsional centre of the crosspiece is located in the median plane.
