Fireproof agent (I) of phosphinic acid or its salt susceptible to be obtained by mixing and reaction of formaldehyde, hypophosphorous acid or its salts and a compound containing at least one amino group, in acidic medium and then recovery of the obtained phosphinic acid type product and optionally followed by conversion of the phosphorous-hydroxy groups of phosphinic acid into phosphorous-metal oxy groups to form a metallic salt of phosphinic acid, is claimed. Fireproof agent (I) of phosphinic acid or its salt susceptible to be obtained by mixing and reaction of formaldehyde, hypophosphorous acid or its salts and a compound containing at least one amino (NH) group, in acidic medium and then recovery of the obtained phosphinic acid type product and optionally followed by conversion of the phosphorous-hydroxy groups (P-OH) of phosphinic acid into phosphorous-metal oxy (P-O-M) groups to form a metallic salt of phosphinic acid, is claimed. M : alkali metal or alkaline earth metal transition. Independent claims are included for: (1) plastic matrix containing a phosphinic acid or its sa and (2) a composition comprising the plastic matrix and the phosphinic acid or its salts at 1-30 wt.% of the matrix.
