The device has a casing (330) including a universal serial bus (USB) 2.0 connector (325) connected to a host system that reads files present in the casing. A processor (305) implements a protocol authorizing connections and disconnections of information mediums. A wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) interface (320) communicates with the protocol, and the processor simulates a tree structure of local files for representing available remote data via the communication implemented by the interface. The processor emulates a File Allocation Table (FAT) 32 file system. An independent claim is also included for a communication method.
