The shaft (14) has a rod (28) with a thermal conductivity higher than that of the shaft for transferring heat from a hot portion of a lubricating film (18) e.g. oil film, to a cold portion of the film. The rod is made of beryllium or palladium. A clearance is provided between the shaft and a cylindrical housing of a hydrodynamic bearing such that the film is interposed between the shaft and the housing during relative movement of the shaft with respect to the housing.
