The fishing reel (10) has a transmission mechanism (18) mounted on a main body (12) combining with a crank to drive a spool (14) to rotate. A sliding mechanism (26) including a worm shaft (36) engages the transmission mechanism for driving the spool to translate linearly. The body has a wall formed with a receiving chamber into which one end of the worm shaft is inserted. A damper (40) i.e. spring, is mounted between one end of the worm shaft and the wall of the main body. The damper provides a shock-absorbing effect to the fishing reel when the fishing reel is subjected to an impact.
