The process for controlling the quality of welding cord produced by a tool (12), comprises collecting a signal representing a fusion temperature of a portion of welding cordon using an optical pyrometer having a sensor at high frequency of acquisition, treating and analyzing the signal to identify the possible defects in the welding cord, and locating a defect zone by calculating the temperature of the signal. The treatment and analysis step includes a frequency phase to raise a relevant recurrent frequency of the signal using mathematical tools. The process for controlling the quality of welding cord produced by a tool (12), comprises collecting a signal representing a fusion temperature of a portion of welding cordon using an optical pyrometer having a sensor at high frequency of acquisition, treating and analyzing the signal to identify the possible defects in the welding cord, and locating a defect zone by calculating the temperature of the signal. The treatment and analysis step includes: a frequency phase to raise a relevant recurrent frequency of the signal using mathematical tools and to verify whether the recurrent frequencies are same as reference frequencies; a phase amplitude to calculate the average amplitude of all or part of the signal and to verify whether the average amplitude is same as reference amplitude; a phase temperature to calculate the average temperature of all or part of the signal and to verify whether the average temperature is same as reference temperature; and a phase extremum to verify whether all or part of the signal is comprised in an area of reference extremum temperature. The reference area has a maximum temperature and a minimum temperature. An independent claim is included for a device for controlling the quality of welding cord produced by a tool.
