The method involves storing media flow packets at a measuring point (PM) and extracting length and code type of payload, during a communication. The signal is cut into N segments of length equal to a length (Ln) of the payload of the stored packets. The segments conforming to the code type of the payload of the stored packets are coded. Packets of degraded reference signal (Ref') are created for the payload of a packet with i sequence number. The degraded reference signal is extracted from the degraded packets. A defined reference signal (Ref) is compared to the degraded signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for estimating transmission quality of a media flow (2) a device for estimating transmission quality of a media flow, comprising a storing module.
