The device (1) has side rails (4a, 4b) e.g. metallic beams, parallel to a horizontal stop (5) of a motor vehicle (2). Slides (10a, 10b) are respectively mounted on the rails. A rigid chassis (15) has arms (12a, 12b), in which each arm includes a sliding unit (13) displaced in the slides. A tilting shaft (51) is mounted at an end of the chassis. A plate (19) is tilted by the shaft and receives a lift apparatus. A jack (22) tilts the plate between a horizontal position and a vertical position. Another jack (23) permits sliding of the chassis in the slides, where jacks are double acting jacks. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for loading a lift apparatus in a motor vehicle (2) a method for unloading a lift apparatus in the motor vehicle.
