The device has measurement sensors (2-5) to determine values of engine functioning rate, engine load, and temperatures of cooling water and oil. A calculation unit (1) co-operates with the sensors. The calculation unit has an algorithm to calculate an oil consumption term based on the values of the engine functioning rate and load during a given functioning time. The algorithm permits to calculate another oil consumption term to be applied to the former term from the values of the temperatures for deducing an estimation of intended oil consumption.
