Electrically actuated braking device for e.g. motor cycle, has actuator including thin rectangular sectioned winding assembled on support, where winding is made of magnetic material such as cobalt and iron alloy and Terfenol-D
The device has an electric motor (1) assembled with a ball screw (2) for rapidly displacing plates (3) that are provided in contact with a brake disk (4) or a brake drum. A magnetostrictive actuator (5) i.e. fixed magnetic circuit, creates a locking force on the plates against the disk or the drum. The actuator has a thin rectangular sectioned winding assembled on a support i.e. core (5a), where the core acts as a guide, and the winding is made of magnetic material such as cobalt and iron alloy and Terfenol-D. The material is magnetized by an electromagnet (11) and a permanent magnet.
