The device has a platform (13) mounted on a top of a support strut i.e. telescopic strut (21), and provided for receiving a sonar head (16), and a floater (14) arranged on the support strut near the top. The buoyancy of the floater is sufficient to maintain the support strut at a vertical position, during the floater is under the action of movements of water bodies in which the floater is immersed. The length of the support strut is determined in a manner to position the sonar head to a defined depth.
