The method involves constructing a simplified convex envelope (11) of a radiation source (10), a simplified convex envelope (31) of a volume target (30) and simplified convex envelopes (21-1-21-5) of volume screens (20-1-20-5), where all envelopes are polyhedrons. A cone (40) i.e. polygon base pyramid, supporting on the envelopes (11, 31) is constructed, where the cone encircles cones of the envelopes (11, 31). The screens (20-2, 20-3) placed between the source and the target are selected, where the envelopes (21-2, 21-3) of the screens (20-2, 20-3) touch the cone (40). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program comprising instructions to perform a method for simulating ray effects emitted by a radiation source on a volume target in a scene (2) a recording medium comprising instructions to perform a method for simulating ray effects emitted by a radiation source on a volume target in a scene.
