The method involves progressively pulling a protective adhesive label (2) adhered on a body of a gas cylinder (1) by simultaneously rolling the adhesive label on an interface (4) e.g. flexible sheet, movable in rotation. The adhesive label pulling step is processed until the adhesive label is completely removed from the body of the gas cylinder. The interface is supported and driven by a motorized rotative mandrel (3), where diameter of the mandrel is lower than the diameter of the body of the cylinder. The interface is provided on the mandrel by a fixation unit having a slit or a wedge.
