The system has a mortise groove (7) and a tenon slot (6) with complementary shapes at slant edges (8, 9) for engagement of the tenon in mortise by unilateral sliding of an upper side (2) towards a lower side (3) of ground covering elements (1). The groove and the slot with complementary shapes cooperate with each other near the side (3) by an elastic detent to oppose liberation of assembling by sliding of the elements one with respect to another.
