An audio recording system comprises an array (1) of microphones (2) and a processor. The array is a logarithmic spiral array in which the minimum distance between each microphone and all others that lie closer to the centre is maximised. The system further comprises beam direction control means and beam width control means so that an audio target is isolated. This allows, for example, audio from a referee at a football match to be isolated and recorded, without needing to physically move each microphone (as with 'gun' or directional gradient microphones).
