A engine (eg. gas turbine) arrangement 100 has an anti-icing / de-icing system which comprises a manifold 101 which includes a hole 104, which in use produces a jet 103 of hot gas which is directed towards a component 105 (eg. a stator vane, strut, shaft) subject to icing. The jet of hot gas is entrained in a core flow (A) passing through the main flow path before being washing over a desired incident area 106 on the component. The stator vane 105, which could be located upstream of the compressor, is preferably heated such that the ice formation is shed before it reaches a certain size. The manifold is preferably located near the intake, and comprises a plurality of jets 103, issuing from a plurality of holes 104. The holes may be oval, round, or slots, and arranged symmetrically about the manifold, and can be closed. An engine having a turbocharger / supercharger may employ this anti-icing / de-icing system.
