Diallylic polysulphides (polysulfanes) are provided of formula: EMI ID=1.1 HE=22 WI=59 LX=755 LY=769 TI=CF PCwherein: DL TSIZE=8 DT```n isDD3-22; DTR1 isDDH or a substituent as defined in the specification; /DL provided that when n is 3-8, R1 is not H; and of formulae: EMI ID=1.2 HE=26 WI=59 LX=728 LY=1311 TI=CF PCand EMI ID=1.3 HE=20 WI=56 LX=742 LY=1615 TI=CF PCwherein: DL TSIZE=6 DTn isDD3-20. /DL Also provided are processes for extending the sulphur chain length of diallyl polysulphides, and 2,2'-disubstituted analogues thereof, and of methyl allyl polysulphides (Me-Sn-CH2-CH=CH2, n / 2), by bringing such compounds into contact with elemental sulphur and heating to a temperature in excess of 50{C, or by mixing with molten sulphur.
