Tidal or river turbine with vertical axis screw turbine

An Archimedes type turbine screw 1 has indents on one side of its blades, and is placed vertically, or at an angle in flowing water such as a river or tidal stream. The screw therefore turns in the same direction regardless of the direction of water flow. The screw may be attached to an alternator or pump (4, figure 3) power generation, and two screws may placed side-by-side, connected by gearing, 4 and rotate in opposite directions. The device may be fixed to a floating platform (6, figure 4) which is moored by anchoring chain 7.
