Transmitting loader software from mobile device to desktop computer for downloading application software from network resource

A mobile device 10, e.g. mobile phone or PDA, is provided with loader software that can be installed on a desktop computing device 12, e.g. laptop or personal computer, to instruct it to download application software from a network resource 14, e.g. internet, and that can provide configuration data to the application software. The mobile device 10 detects all desktop computing devices 12 with which the mobile device 10 can communicate and selects one of the desktop computing devices 12 on which the application software is to be installed. The loader software is transmitted to the selected desktop computing device 12, which is then used to run the loader software and direct it to a network resource 14 to download application software and install it using configuration data relating to the mobile device 10. The installed application software can then be run to provide functionality and connectivity between the mobile device 10, the desktop computing device 12 and network resources 14.
