PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing nickel elution from a liquid-contact instrument made of a copper alloy, by which elution of nickel is prevented, for example, valves for city water, valves for water or hot-water supply, pipe joints, strainers, water faucet metal, pump equipment, water meters, water cleaners, water or hot-water supply apparatus and other liquid-contact instruments made of copper alloys such as bronze and brass treated with nickel-containing plating, even when the instruments are in contact with a fluid such as city water, and to provide a protective film forming agent for prevention of nickel elution and a detergent for prevention of nickel elution.;SOLUTION: The method for preventing nickel elution in a liquid-contact instrument made of a copper alloy treated with nickel-containing plating includes: applying a protective film forming agent on at least a liquid-contact face of the liquid-contact instrument, the film forming agent comprising a protective film forming component containing wax and a solvent component that dissolves the protective film forming component in water thereby forming a protective film; and suppressing elution of nickel by the protective film.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
