PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflecting/polarizing optical device by which luminance of a display device can be improved further.;SOLUTION: The reflecting/polarizing optical device 5 is provided with a reflection polarizer 2 and a retardation film 1. The retardation film 1 is arranged on the side of a light incident plane of the reflection polarizer 2. The retardation film 1 changes light of a predetermined polarized state into light mainly composed of the light of the polarized state different from the predetermined polarized state and transmits the transformed light. A smaller angle among the angles formed by the optical axis 71 of the retardation film 1 and the transmission axis 70 of the reflection polarizer 2 is in the ranges of 35-55°.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
