PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing an intermediate necessary for the synthesis of a natural carotenoid product, which uses a sulfone compound and has an advantage of high preparation efficiency because of its comparative simplicity.;SOLUTION: The method for preparing 4-chloro-3-methyl-2-butenylphenyl sulfide as a C5-unit compound for extending a carbon chain and di(4-chloro-3-methyl-2-butenyl)sulfide as a C10-unit compound for forming a central polyene part is provided. Di(4-chloro-3-methyl-2-butenyl)sulfone as a selective oxide of the di(4-chloro-3-methyl-2-butenyl)sulfide and its preparation method are also provided.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
