PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently specify the cause of a failure generated in a computer system and to determine a coping method for the failure.;SOLUTION: A failure coping device repeats material extraction on a failure coping object device based on extracted material knowledge, analysis of the extracted materials, determination of whether or not there are enough materials required for specifying the cause, and further material extraction till determination that there are enough materials required for specifying the cause. When it is determined that there are enough materials required for specifying the cause, based on the failure phenomenon and the extracted materials, the device refers to the cause specification knowledge of which the failure cause is correlated to the failure phenomenon and the extracted materials for specifying the cause, refers to the coping determination knowledge for determining the coping method, refers to the coping method knowledge, acquires a concrete coping method corresponding to the determined coping method, and presents the method to the object device.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
