PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable-focus liquid crystal lens which can provide a desired lens characteristic by uniformly aligning a liquid crystal and to provide its manufacturing method.;SOLUTION: The variable-focus liquid crystal lens 1 has structure wherein a liquid crystal layer 13 is held between two opposed transparent substrates 11 and 12 formed with transparent electrodes 16 and 17, respectively. A seal 10 is provided at a peripheral part between the transparent substrates 11 and 12 and thereby leakage of a liquid crystal is prevented and the liquid crystal layer 13 is held in a prescribed thickness. Transparent Fresnel lens faces 14 and 15 are formed on the opposed surfaces of the transparent substrates 11 and 12, respectively. Alignment layers 18 and 19 for aligning the liquid crystal in a prescribed direction are provided on the surfaces of the Fresnel lens faces 14 and 15, respectively. The alignment layers 18 and 19 are formed directly onto a forming material for forming the Fresnel lens faces 14 and 15 by transfer of a mold.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
