PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display element having a high contrast ratio.;SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a transmissive liquid crystal display element includes at least: a step of mirror finishing of both surfaces of an A-face sapphire substrate; a step of forming a silicon oxide film on the front surface of the sapphire substrate; a step of sticking a single crystal silicon substrate to the front surface of the A-face sapphire substrate; a step of roughening the rear surface of the A-face sapphire substrate; a step of LSI processing on the single crystal silicon substrate; and a step of aligning a C crystal axis of the A-face sapphire substrate with either a transmission polarization axis or an absorption polarization axis of a polarizer stuck to the A-face sapphire substrate and an alignment axis of an alignment film formed on the A-face sapphire substrate.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
