PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel active compound definitely improving the treatment of poorly healing diabetes-associated wounds and poorly healing arterial wounds since a new active compound definitely improving the treatment of poorly healing diabetes-associated wounds and poorly healing arterial wounds is strongly needed from a point of view that the number of type II diabetes patients is markedly increasing in the world and there are extraordinarily large number of arterial ulcer patients. PSOLUTION: The invention relates to the use of alpha 1-antichymotrypsin (ACT) polypeptides having a specific sequence and/or nucleic acids encoding them; an antibody or a fragment thereof directed against the polypeptide; or a cell expressing the polypeptide or a nucleic acid encoding it, for diagnosis, treatment and/or prevention of diabetes-associated and/or arterial wounds which heal poorly and for identifying pharmacologically active substances which exert an influence on the expression or function, particularly the activity of ACT.
