PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new aromatic carboxylic acid and an acid chloride thereof each useful as a raw material for highly heat-resistant condensation polymers.;SOLUTION: The new aromatic carboxylic acid is represented by formula(1). The acid chloride derivative thereof is represented by formula(2). A method for synthesizing the aromatic carboxylic acid of formula(1) comprises oxidizing a compound of formula(3) by treatment with an oxidizing agent to form a compound of formula(4), which is then reacted with a compound of formula(5) in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide to form a compound of formula(6), which, in turn, is subjected to acid treatment.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
