PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive external finder device and a camera having it which is prevented from colliding with an electronic flash unit during movement, capable of providing a good finder visual field, and carried conveniently. PSOLUTION: The external finder device includes a finder part 1 used for deciding a composition in taking a picture, a base part 2 attached to an accessory shoe 102 for fixing the finder part 1 to the upper part of a camera main body 101, and a holding means 3 held by the base part 2 for holding the finder part 1 above an electronic flash light emitting part 130 of the electronic flash unit 103 while preventing invasion of the electronic flash unit 103 into the finder visual field of the finder part 1.
