PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original size correction apparatus which corrects a detected original size to an actual original size when where are other regions than the original in image data which is obtained by scanning the original and it determines that the detected original size is different from the actual original size. PSOLUTION: The original size correction apparatus includes: an original size detecting means for detecting the size of an inputted original; a counting means for counting the number of pixels having pixel values smaller than a first threshold value for a predetermined region of an image of the inputted original; and a correcting means which compares the number of pixels counted by the counting means with a second threshold value, and, when it determines that the predetermined region is not an effective image region with respect to the original, corrects the detected original size to an actual original size, and at the same time, corrects pixel values of lines within a predetermined range from the boundary of the image of the original by replacing them with pixel values of a base region of the image of the original.
