PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens with a high variable power and a wide angle of view, having a vibration-proof function, and having excellent optical performance, and also to provide an imaging apparatus, a vibration-proof method for a zoom lens, and a method for varying power of a zoom lens. PSOLUTION: The zoom lens includes, in an order from an object side, a first lens group G1 having positive refractive power, a second lens group G2 having negative refractive power, a third lens group G3 having positive refractive power, and a fourth lens group G4 having positive refractive power. When varying power from a wide angle end state W to a telephoto end state T, a distance between the first lens group and the second lens group increases, a distance between the second lens group and the third lens group decreases, and a distance between the third lens group and the fourth lens group varies. The third lens group includes, in the order from the object side, a front group G31 having positive refractive power and a rear group G32 having negative refractive power. When a camera shake occurs, the image surface is corrected by moving the rear group in a direction nearly orthogonal to an optical axis.
