PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate an engine with high thermal efficiency, by injecting engine ignition pilot oil into a combustion chamber at proper timing, responding to change in fuel gas composition containing inert gas. PSOLUTION: A pilot oil supply timing adjusting device comprises: a gas sensor 4 measuring the fuel gas component to be supplied in the combustion chamber; a fuel gas composition determining part 5 calculating inert gas concentration in the combustion gas from the measurement resu a data storing part 6 for setting the pilot oil supply timing, which stores data on a relation between the preset inert gas concentration and the pilot oil supply timing; a pilot oil supply timing setting part 7 collating the inert gas concentration in the fuel gas, calculated by the fuel gas composition determining part 5 with the data on the relation stored in the data storing part 6 to set the pilot oil supply timing with respect to the concentration; and a pilot oil supply timing adjusting part 9 adjusting pilot oil injection timing of a pilot fuel injection valve, based on pilot injection timing set by the pilot oil supply timing setting part 7.
